Medical Exercise

Medical Exercise Specialists help clients to manage their chronic medical conditions, and improve their quality of life.

The Medical Exercise Specialist develops conditioning programs for clients with musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and metabolic disorders.

These clients will have already progressed to a subacute or chronic stage of injury or medical condition, and completed medical treatment and/or physical therapy.

The MES does not diagnose medical conditions. Medically unstable clients will be referred to a licensed medical professional. Clients will not be seen without having a doctor's note clearing them to exercise.

Our Medical Exercise Specialists (MES) are certified through the American Academy of Health, Fitness & Rehabilitation Professionals (AAHFRP).

The MES helps bridge the gap between healthcare and fitness.

Medical Professionals can expect:

  •  A 12-point musculoskeletal screening to determine the client's suitability for the program.

  • Understanding the related anatomy, pathology, and biomechanics of the common medical conditions, and how they respond to exercise.

  • Effective communication with medical community, using standardized medical terms.

  • Documentation of training sessions and evaluation of MES program based on assessment of functional abilities.

  • An understanding of the scope of practice when working with post-rehab and medical exercise clients.

  • Identification of warning signs that indicate the need for treatment from a licensed medical professional.

"I love the atmosphere at Pongo Power. There's lots of good energy and friendly support in a small setting that's never intimidating. My personal experience at Pongo Power has been very effective, because Gardy understands how all the muscles work together, and creates much more effective workouts." Alison, Patellar tendon rupture

“I am convinced that without Pongo Power and Gardy, I would be a semi-invalid today. Many, many thanks for helping me get my life back.” -Roger, Double knee replacement, back reconstruction

"Karin's guidance has been invaluable! The strengthening work we did enabled me to sail through hip replacement surgery, and I could not have returned to full mobility without her wisdom, patience, encouragement, and knowledge of human anatomy." -Ann, Hip Replacement
