When I first moved to Brooklyn right before September 2001, I felt the palpable lonely feeling of being an outsider, that I'm sure most newbies do.

Over the years I've taken to the streets to help myself overcome my fears & existential angst, and I do believe it's actually worked! I am pleasantly surprised by how at home I feel.

Started up 10 years ago, Summer Streets is designed to welcome one-and-all to play, discover, and have fun on our streets.

"Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space—our streets. On three consecutive Saturdays in August, nearly seven miles of NYC's streets are opened for people to play, run, walk and bike."

Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation.

In 2016, nearly 300,000 people took advantage of the open streets!

Summer Streets is modeled on other events from around the world including Ciclovía in Bogotá, Colombia and the Paris Plage in France and has since inspired other such events around the world such as  CicloRecreo Via and London's Regent Street Summer Streets."

This year, I ran from Brooklyn Bridge to 72nd Street with my two besties.  I also went down the VitaCoco water slide!
